The Hydrant Bali in Vegas

These four guys from Bali, the pioneers of rockabilly revival in Indonesia, have the honor to perform at the biggest rockabilly festival in the world, Viva Las Vegas, in the month of April 2016. Tom Ingram, the originator of this most prestigious and longest running rockabilly event—it’s now the nineteenth year—personally sent an invitation letter. He warmly requested The Hydrant to perform, together with dozens of other rockabilly artists from around the globe. Why historical? Till this nearly 20 years of the festival, never ever before an Indonesian band lucky enough to be on that prestigious concert stage in the rockabilly Mecca: Las Vegas. This is also a kind of little reminiscent where in the past a band from Timor, Eastern part of Indonesia, Tielman Brothers, gloriously amazed the Western world with their Indorock musical style. The issue is, these young men are not really from a financially well-off background. Each member of the band still has their own day job to support themselves and their family. One is a beach life guard, the other a barber, the rest is an illustrator, a guitar teacher. Yes, they need your help. Marshello, Adi, Vincent, and Christopper, need your support to show their amazing music skills and beautiful stage acts, to let the first-world people know that a band from a developing country is as awesome. Let’s be part of history!

Belajar dari masa lalu, Hidup untuk Hari Ini dan Melihat ke Masa Depan (Re: Ian Brown/Navicula in Bali)

Dear all friends, notes saya sebelumnya hanyalah uneg-uneg sesaat pasca batal tampil dengan alasan yang bagi saya kurang bisa diterima. Namun pada akhirnya, toh saya pribadi termasuk band dan manajemen membiarkan saja kejadian tersebut sebagai masa lalu dan sebagai pelajaran yang kita ambil saja hikmah dan sisi positifnya utk kita bersama ke jenjang yang lebih baik.
Kita sebaiknya berdiri untuk hari ini dan masa depan.
Saya pikir kita bersama sudahi saja sumpah serapah, respon negatif, bahkan hujatan2 yg bersifat rasis, karena bagi saya ini sudah terlalu melebar.
Kita pun sebagai manusia tak luput dari kesalahan bila introspeksi lebih dalam lagi.
Jadi, daripada kita berlarut-larut dalam energi negatif, dan mencegah dilibatkannya pihak-pihak lain yang seharusnya tidak mendapat sorotan negatif, mari bersama kita sudahi respon negatif yang terlalu tajam dan menyinggung. Anggap aja ini sebagai reaksi hari kemarin sebagai bentuk ekspresi wajar kita sebagai manusia. Perasaan kecewa adalah ekspresi wajar. Tapi jangan sampai hal ini jadi permusuhan dan kebencian yang tidak perlu dan berkepanjangan, sehingga memboroskan waktu, tenaga, dan pikiran kita.
Saya menghargai dukungan dan respon kalian, baik pro dan kontra terhadap kami. Saya pribadi sangat terharu, karena opini anda terbit karena anda care.
Tapi kan masih ada hari ini dan esok. Jangan sampai masalah ini jadi hal2 yg menyita perhatian kita padahal masih banyak hal2 lain yg lebih penting dan urgent utk kita pikirkan bersama saat ini.
Di setiap kegagalan ada pelajaran dan saya yakin semua orang pasti menginginkan yang terbaik bagi perspektif mereka masing2.
Mohon jangan lagi ada caci-maki dan atmosfir kebencian di udara. Let time heal the pain.

Mohon maaf kalau ada pihak yang tersinggung akibat insiden ini. Kita memang sempat tersinggung, tapi itu sudah lewat.
Kita sama-sama belajar sekarang. Lebih baik kita fokus ke hal-hal lain yang positif, kreatif, berguna, dan hal-hal lain yg lebih vital, misalnya bercinta dengan pasangan kita, menjalin hubungan baik dengan teman lama, bikin musik, bersihin got, membuat susu kedelai, mengawinkan ternak, dan saya akan membenahi elemen negosiator di manajemen band saya agar masalah2 seperti tidak terulang kembali.
Sekali lagi saya sangat berterima kasih atas dukungan semua pihak terhadap kejadian ini. Jangan lupakan, tapi belajarlah dari masa lalu. Jadikan hari ini lebih baik dari kemarin. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, but today is a gift!
Btw, band saya hari ini berkumpul dan siap latihan untuk menggarap lagu2 baru, serta menyiapkan diri utk beberapa gigs ke depan. Rock n roll still goes on!

Regarding the supposed Ian Brown vs. Navicula incident in Bali, in the interests of objectivity I'm quoting Silvie Nebauer(@SilvieInBali) of Massive Vibrations' response to Alan Abbott's comments on the "Ian Brown - Godlike Genius" Facebook page. I know some of the Navicula guys and I regret that this happened to them, but I'd rather know the whole story from all possible angles before choosing to condemn anyone:

"Ian's Mgmt approved an acoustic set ONLY , we tried to work this out but unfortunately IT did NOT >>>I Luv Navicula and did everything possible to add them as supporting Act ! Pls don't be rude in such manner ! Disgrace is a very harsh word ! Respect to Music !"

I was not at Soundcheck , therefore cannot comment on this issue
but since I toured with many Bands for over 10 years as Tour Manager I do know that such moments happen on and on at concerts in various countries . why ? because each Band wants to get it just right for themselves first of all and if the equipment is not prepared the Main Act has to come first ....

Saya Ten Swaratama wakil dari Hard Rock Cafe Bali dan kami sangat setuju dengan pernyataan Cindy Ishimine dan Robby Navicula bahwa Rock & Roll should be about fun, about passion and about channeling creativity and idea through music.

Kejadian tadi malam, Sabtu 7 Agustus saat Navicula gagal perform di Hard Rock Cafe Bali sangat disayangkan dan kami meminta maaf atas ketidaknyamanan tersebut kepada Navicula beserta fans nya. Tapi perlu diketahui, bahwa HARD ROCK CAFE BALI HANYA SEBAGAI VENUE ACARA. Dan tidak berhubungan langsung dengan pihak management Ian Brown mengenai kontrak dan konsep acara. Selain sebagai venue, Hard Rock Cafe Bali hanya membantu pihak organizer (Front Media dan Berlian Entertainment) dalam hal produksi (penyewaan alat/riders) dan akomodasi artist, dan kami tidak mempunyai hak untuk mengatur isi acara maupun memutuskan siapa yang akan perform sebagai supporting act dalam acara tersebut. Kami sangat menyesal dan kejadian tadi malam adalah diluar kuasa kami.

Semoga penjelasan ini dapat mengklarifikasi duduk masalah dan posisi Hard Rock Cafe Bali yang hanya sebagai venue acara tersebut. Dan bisa dipastikan Hard Rock Cafe Bali selama ini telah dan akan selalu mensupport kemajuan dan kreativitas musisi tanah air. Terima kasih.
